There are so many benefits to mineral makeup that you should definitely consider giving it a go if you haven’t already. I did a while back for the first time and never stopped using mineral makeup since. That’s how addictive I became.
What is mineral makeup?
It’s a bit difficult to pinpoint precisely what mineral make-up is because most cosmetics nowadays are formulated with some mineral components, and so they could be easily marketed as mineral.
But let’s try to define it nevertheless.
Mineral makeup is usually makeup made entirely and only of iron oxides, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, mica powders, and organic oils, all of which are natural ingredients known to be kind to the skin and ecologically friendly when sourced appropriately.
It’s true that some brands market something as mineral makeup while adding conventional ingredients to their cosmetics, such as fragrances or preservatives, which by all minerals-standard, should not be contained in mineral makeup.
Either way, whether they’re 100% minerals cosmetics or cosmetics that only contain minerals both will actually make a difference to your skin. And as to how they’ll make a difference, in the following.
How is mineral makeup different from traditional makeup?
Mineral makeup is different from traditional makeup mainly in that it’s natural or more naturally derived. Minerals are healthy components and thus mineral makeup tends more to the body chemistry than conventional makeup.
Mineral makeup will usually leave out ingredients commonly found in traditional makeup, such as preservatives, dyes, parabens, synthetic colors, siloxanes and other chemicals.
When looking to buy mineral makeup, scroll through the ingredients label to see just how synthetic-less it is and if it’s worth the buy because remember that some mineral cosmetics might still be too chemically ridden.
Benefits to mineral makeup
The beauty and health benefits of mineral makeup are many. Mineral makeup:
- Is suitable for sensitive skin;
- It helps conceal acne or other skin issues;
- It creates a more natural look;
- Is more naturally sourced, thus safer and healthier;
- Is long lasting.
- It layers up better than traditional makeup without looking caked;
- It brightens the skin;
- Is lightweight, and so it doesn’t feel heavy.
- Is known to reduce fine wrinkles;
- Is versatile.
Of all those listed benefits, my favorite is probably the fact that mineral makeup is friendly to sensitive skin, but that’s just being biased because I’m so skin sensitive myself.
I’ve noticed that mineral foundation, for example, wears so much better in the summer when the weather is hot and humid.
I mentioned mineral foundation because I tried this myself, and as well because there’s a lot of hype going around it, but mineral makeup isn’t just mineral foundation; it’s many other cosmetics too.
Mineral makeup cosmetics
The mineral makeup line of cosmetics includes many items, starting with mineral foundations to eye shadows, bronzers, blushes, even lipsticks.
Mineral skin care is as well available from some brands, and this can include moisturizers and cleansers although these are items that usually contain mineral-derived ingredients and some natural elements, but are not 100% mineral.
There are mineral powders so versatile that you can use them as either eye shadow, eyeliner – when you dip the brush into water, lip color – if you have a clear lip-gloss to mix the powder into, or nail polish if you mix the color into clear polish.
This is one of my favorite ways to have fun with mineral makeup and it is one of the best ways to get creative with your look as well.
Rules for applying mineral makeup
In addition to mineral makeup you need quality tools, brushes and makeup sponges. To take care of your skin but also to increase their lifespan, brushes should be washed regularly, at least every two weeks, if not more often.
Before applying any kind of makeup moisturize first. Wait for 5 minutes and apply the makeup base.
Just like with conventional makeup products, with the mineral makeup one must be careful when choosing the shade, depending on the skin type.
While it is natural, mineral makeup is not recommended for those who have dry skin.
If you have oily skin or mixed, mineral makeup can become your favorite one. The powder absorbs excess sebum from the skin and your pores will seem much smaller, almost non-existent.
Mineral foundation has high hiding power. It’s perfect for ladies who face problems like acne, pigmentation or any other skin marks.
These were benefits that natural mineral makeup brings to our skin.
